Tranilast (Rizaben¢ç), a new antiallergic drug, has been shown to inhibit type I allergic reactions, and we studied the effect of Tranilast in 30 patients (16 males, 14 females) with perennial allergic rhinitis who visited Dept. of Otolaryngology, Kyungbuk National University Hospital.
After 1 week of observation period, Tranilast 100mg (Rizaben 1 Cap) was administered orally 3 times a day for 4 weeks.
Tranilast therapy showed, that 25 cases out of 3O cases(83.3%) were effective in 4 weeks with administration. The effect was excellent in 4, good in 16 and fairly good in 5.
There was no side effect observed during the period of administration of Tranilast and adverse effect on the parameter of tests was not detected. From these results, Tranilast(Rizaben¢ç) was considered to be clinically safe and effective to perennial allergic rhinitis.
